As you may know, the CYPT has been hard at work figuring out the best way to hear directly from children under age 9 about their well-being.
We’re excited to announce that in collaboration with the Landon Pearson Resource Centre for the Study of Childhood and Children’s Rights, we will be hosting an exciting event for 6-8 year olds on Saturday, April 5th!
- DATE: Saturday, April 5, 2025
- TIME: 1 – 4:30 PM
- PLACE: Kitchener Public Library (85 Queen Street West, Kitchener)
We only have 34 spots left and expect registration to fill up quickly!
Event Details
What is this project all about? This is a fun opportunity for children to share their thoughts about things that matter to them such as things they care about in their community and about their well-being.
What will children be doing? Children will be sharing their thoughts on Building our Communities of Care. What this means is that children will be sharing their thoughts on what a community that cares for them could look like. Youth mentors will be leading children in various activities to collect their thoughts and ideas. Children will also be playing and enjoying some yummy snacks.
Our thank-you gift. All children participating in this project will get a one-day Funworx play package at Bingemans which they can use at any time this year.
How will children share their thoughts? Children will have a chance to colour, draw, write or say their thoughts to the youth mentors and they will collect all the sheets of papers. Voice recorders will be used to get the thoughts of children who choose to speak out their opinions. The materials will be collected so that we can make sure we get the thoughts correctly.
What’s going to happen to the information that will be collected? All the information from the fun activities will be put together and shared back with the children, and parents and adults who lead and make important decisions about children. We will also let other people in the community know about all the great things kids have to say. If a child wants, we can use their drawings, writings, or quotes from them when we are explaining to others what they said.
What will parents/guardians be doing? We are creating a fun way for parents to also share their thoughts on same issues the children will be talking about. This is optional. While the children are doing their fun activities in a different room, parents who wish, will also get a chance to write or chat around tea, coffee and snacks with other parents and our staff/adult volunteers. Parents are also free to use the library or go and return while children are busy. Completely their choice.
What if I register and then change my mind? You can change your mind at any time, even during the event. You can always say no, even if you said yes before.
