Youth Impact Survey, phase 2

SENSE-MAKING SESSIONS

At the end of 2020, CYPT backbone staff hosted 4 virtual sense-making sessions with youth to better understand the stories behind the data gathered from the Youth Impact Survey. Youth were invited to direct the conversation and talk about the domains most important to them! What did youth want to talk about most:

  • We are Happy and Respected
  • We are Connected to our Environment
  • We are Free to Play
  • We are Participating

And it’s no surprise that the impacts of COVID-19 were an underlying theme to all conversations.

Thanks to all our members who promoted the sense-making sessions and invited backbone staff into your groups to chat with youth! We are currently summarizing all the insights and conversations. Stay tuned for a report outlining what we heard from youth about the Youth Impact Survey results!

PHASE 2

It’s official – the Youth Impact Survey is back! We are excited to announce our community will be participating in another round of the  Community Child and Youth Well-being Survey in partnership with UNICEF Canada. Waterloo Region is joining Halton Region, Ottawa, and Halifax/Digby/Yarmouth as one of four participating communities to implement the survey in 2021.

Phase 2 has been made possible with the generous support of Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation.

“KWCF is pleased to provide support to the Youth Impact Survey, that expands on the data already collected through the Children and Youth Planning Table from young people across Waterloo Region about their well-being,” said Lynne Short, Vice President, Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation. “ As we move forward on addressing issues in our community, it is critical we hear from, and engage directly with, young people to develop youth-led solutions that will have impact.”

Moving to phase 2 would not have been possible without all your support during the Youth Impact Survey pilot last summer! We are very excited to continue learning from youth in our community, and can’t wait to reach even more youth in phase 2. Stay tuned for more updates.

If you would like to learn more about how you can be involved in phase 2 efforts of the Youth Impact Survey, please reach out to Joana Lincho at (jlincho@carizon.ca).

YOUTH CONNECTORS

CYPT in partnership with Carizon is hiring 2 Youth Connectors to help support the mobilization of the Youth Impact Survey in 2021.  We’ll share more about these youth connectors soon, and we are looking forward with connecting them with voting members to share how members can help with phase 2 of this project.

DATA BRIEFS

Don’t forget – you can find the results of the pilot Youth Impact Survey in our Data Briefs here! Has the data from the pilot survey impacted how you are working with children and youth? We want to hear about it! Reach out to Joana (jlincho@carizon.ca) to share stories, highlights, or new ways of working inspired by the Youth Impact Survey. We’d love to share the learnings, both with CYPT members and with youth who supported the YIS along the way!
